Silly Gnomes Q

Silly Gnomes Q is a machine embroidery design of the capital letter Q, drawn as a swirling blue ribbon filled with small white snowflakes. A cheerful gnome with a tall red hat trimmed with a snowflake band, a fluffy white beard, red mittens and tan boots sits on a candy cane that forms the left side of the letter, waving both arms. It is stitched with fill and satin stitches and has no applique. It is shown in red, white, blue and tan, but that is only a suggestion, and any shades of the same colour family will work.

This festive initial is lovely on Christmas tea towels, tote bags, cushion covers, stockings and baby clothes. It also works as a personalised gift for a name or monogram, or as a letter block in a winter quilt. It sits well on cotton, linen, canvas and fleece, where the snowflake details stay clear.

The design measures 98 mm wide by 99 mm high (3.9 x 3.9 inches), so it fits a 4 x 4 inch hoop. With 15,392 stitches and only 5 colour changes, it stitches fairly quickly. Use tearaway stabiliser on stable woven fabrics and cutaway stabiliser on knits.
