Merry G

Merry G is a large letter G in a flowing script style, filled with textured green stitching and decorated with fine white snowflakes. The soft stripes in the fill and the snowflake outlines give it a cosy Christmas look. It is shown here in green and white, but that is only a suggestion. Any shades of the same colour family work, such as forest green, lime or sage, with white, cream or silver for the snowflakes.

This festive initial suits Christmas tea towels, tote bags, cushion covers, stockings and gift bags. It also works as a monogram on baby clothes or as a quilt block in a winter sampler. It sits well on cotton, linen and canvas, where the snowflake lines stay clear and crisp.

The design measures 51 mm wide x 101 mm high (2.0 x 4.0 inches), so choose a hoop with a stitching area a little taller than 101 mm. It has 7,644 stitches and only 1 colour change, so it stitches up quickly. Use tearaway stabiliser on stable woven fabrics and cutaway stabiliser on knits.
