Silly Gnomes D

Silly Gnomes D shows a cheerful gnome with his arms raised, juggling three Christmas baubles beside a large letter D. The gnome has a tall red hat with a knitted look, a long white beard, a peach nose, a blue coat, red mittens and tan boots. The baubles are red, blue and green with fine gold line patterns. The D is blue with white snowflakes. It is stitched with fill stitches and has no applique. These colours are only a suggestion, and any shades of the same family will work.

This festive initial is a good fit for Christmas tea towels, tote bags, cushion covers, stockings and gift sacks. It also works on baby clothes and bibs, or as a quilt block in an alphabet or name quilt. It sits well on cotton, linen, canvas and quilting cotton, where the fill stitches and fine snowflakes stay neat.

The design measures 98 mm wide x 86 mm high (3.9 x 3.4 inches), so it fits a 100 mm (4 inch) hoop with little room to spare. It has 15,129 stitches and only 7 colour changes, so it stitches up fairly quickly. Use tearaway stabiliser on stable woven fabrics and cutaway on knits.
