The number 6 is a tall loop and the hen beside it has the loose scribble stitched over the breast. The curve of the digit follows the line of her back.
Suits a sixth birthday, a house number, a bunting flag or a sampler. Flip it and you have most of a 9, though the bird faces the other way in that one.
