Japanese themed designs work from traditional motifs and lend themselves to restrained projects where a single well placed design carries the whole item. They suit plain linens, wall hangings, cushion covers and garments in solid colours.

Designs in this style depend on clean line work rather than dense fill, which makes them relatively quick to stitch but unforgiving of a loose hoop. Stabilise firmly and use a fresh needle so the lines stay crisp.
