Fringed Machine Embroidery Alphabets & Designs

Fringe is a technique rather than a subject. The design stitches with long loose stitches over a central line, and once it comes out of the hoop you cut along that line and brush the threads out. The result is a raised furry texture that no flat fill can imitate, used for manes, beards, hair and skirts.

Loosen the top tension slightly for the fringe section and let the machine run a little slower. After cutting, brush the fringe firmly with a stiff brush to open the threads up, then trim to shape. It looks wrong until you brush it, which catches people out the first time.
